The creature in my dream looked like this, but was gray, brown or orange instead of white, and I'm not sure if there was a beak, or just a shorter cat snout structure. I'm very sure there was no beak. The spots were not necessarily leopard spots, but liked similar to what is on this creatures wings and head.
As a chitten, they were able to fold up so it looked like an owl was sitting on my shoulder, but it still had four paws and a tail. The wings were fuzzy on the outside. It all felt like fur rather than feathers. It could have been a different breed of Griffin, I guess, but the creature was never given a name, or at least I don't remember it. The only word I remember in relation to the creature was chitten for the young ones.
Another example is from Avatar:
It's also not perfect because my creature definitely had four legs. But you get the idea of the look, right?
Since I can't really find much on the Owlcat, I'm going to post some meanings of both.
Meanings follow jump
Owls
"Owls symbolize wisdom, the ability to see things that are hidden, stealth, swiftness, darkness, freedom, dreams, shape-shifting, secrets, omens, clairvoyance, astral projection, magick, deception, observation, total truth, night, death and misfortune. They are connected to the Underworld and the Moon. They are connected to The Goddess in general, as well as Athena, Mari, Lilith, Anath, Gwynn ap Nudd, Blodeuwedd, Yama and Cailleach." (Totem Animals and their Symbols)
"Depending on your location, traditions, etc. you will hear a variety of different lore about this particular creature. Owls are considered the guardians of the dead, and to have the ability to see through dimensions. In some cultures they are feared as messengers of death. From: Animal Symbolism: Cat
I have always associated myself with cats and generally had at least one as a pet. Owls are a tad new...but funnily enough, when I was young. I remember seeing a prismatic owl sitting outside my window at night. It freaked me out a bit then, but looking back, I don't think it was malevolent. Just, curious.
Please let me know your thoughts in the comments. I would love to discuss this with whoever is reading. :)
